Under clinical sociology, social work addresses social hardships at the individual, group, and societal levels. The coursework for our social work concentration will help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to identify, evaluate, and treat various challenges that individuals face. In addition, it prepares you to work in multiple settings dealing with issues such as gender studies, sex and sexualities, addiction and substance abuse, disability and physical health, mental health, marriage and family, intimate partner violence, research, law and policy, military social work, social movements, school social work, child and family welfare, and environmental issues. Social work emphasizes a person-in-environment approach that aims to help people - understanding and addressing their psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems within the context of their family, professional lives, and social circles.
